Description
The blood, the cells and the matrix - the space between the cells - each have a complicated environment which is made up of a wide range of atoms, molecules, cellular building blocks and water. This important balance may easily be disturbed. This can quickly lead to a dysfunction of the affected cells or environment. For example, an imbalance of electrolytes (usually charged, ionic atoms of certain minerals) may lead to the kidneys malfunctioning which may lead to significant changes in blood pressure. The accurate conduction of nerve signals is extremely dependent on the correct balance between several different ions inside and outside of the nerve cell. A shortage (or an excess) of water may lead to measurable shrinkage (swelling) of the brain volume which in turn can lead to significant headaches and even loss of consciousness.
MAINTAINING AN OPTIMAL BALANCE OF ELECTROLYTES AND WATER IS THUS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE. REASONS FOR USING THE REHYDRATION FIZZY WOULD INCLUDE:
1. Planned or recently completed strenuous exercise.
2. Excessive sweating (through exercise, exposure to heat, etc).
3. Diarrhoea or moisture loss for other reasons.
4. When excessive water has been taken in without accompanying electrolytes (e.g. on a hot day).
